World No. 15 Zheng Qinwen sent her idol Novak Djokovic to the floor during a mixed doubles match at the United Cup.

In the third game of the mixed doubles match between China and Serbia, Djokovic made a great save at the net but his shot landed around the service line. Zheng was there and she hit a heavy forehand – which went directly into Djokovic’s chest.

Luckily, Djokovic’s reflexes were on point as the Serb was able to maneuver and defend himself with his racket. Djokovic was maybe able to avoid getting hit directly in the chest with the ball but Zheng’s ball was so powerful that the Serb found himself on the ground after it bounced off his racket.

When Djokovic got up, he had a smile on his face and jokingly gestured to Zheng that he saw what she had just done and that he would keep an eye on her. Zheng started laughing as well and everything finished lightheartedly.

Zheng lost to ‘idol’ Djokovic in their mixed doubles match

On Sunday, Djokovic crashed Chinese United Cup team’s presser after Zheng and Zhang Zhizhan led China to a win over the Czech Republic. When Zheng noticed Djokovic, she called him “idol” and did not want him to leave the press room before giving her an autograph.

The following day, Zheng met Djokovic on the court. After Zheng beat Olga Danilovic and Djokovic defeated Zhang, China and Italy went into a deciding tie. While Zheng got a chance to play against her idol, it didn’t end the way she had hoped as Danilovic and Djokovic ended up beating the Chinese duo 6-4 1-6 10-6 to seal a 2-1 win for Serbia over China.

In the first set, Danilovic and Djokovic broke Zhang and Zheng in the seventh game before serving out for the opener in the 10th game. Zheng and Zhang stormed back in the second set, taking a 5-0 lead before forcing a decider in the seventh game.

Unfortunately for Zheng and Zhang, they fell short in their bid to complete a comeback as Danilovic and Djokovic won four points in a row in the match tie-break to open a 7-3 lead before realizing their third match point.
