Service trainers in use | News, Sports, Jobs

Auto service technology students at Jefferson County Joint Vocational School have been learning concepts of repair using different instructional tools, including high-tech trainers. During the past several years, the program has used trainers to take individual vehicle systems such as brakes and incorporate them on a metal frame. This allows students to see a vehicle system without the body and frame, which limits their ability to see all of the components. The trainers are especially valuable for visual-learning styles and gives students the ability to see a tangible object in front of them compared to individual pieces or an entire vehicle. The first series of trainers were based on braking and air conditioning systems and the most recent is an engine repair and performance trainer. The engine trainer allows for fault simulations that would mirror real-world scenarios, giving students an opportunity to use diagnostic scan tools and online diagnostic technologies to diagnose and repair simulated faults.
